• William Andrew (Andy) Hollerman completed a Ph.D. in Applied Physics, with concentration in Materials Science, from Alabama A&M University in May 1996. He has earned Masters degrees in Physics (experimental atomic effects) from Western Michigan University in 1985 and Physics (radiation effects) from Purdue University in 1986. Dr. Hollerman also completed a group-major Bachelors degree in Mathematics and Physics from the former St. Joseph's College in Indiana.

  • Dr. Hollerman was promoted to Professor of Physics at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL Lafayette) in August 2014. From 2011-2014, he held the Dr. and Mrs. Sammie W. Cosper/BORSF Endowed Chair in Physics and was Graduate Coordinator for the Department of Physics from September 2008 to August 2013. Dr. Hollerman was promoted to Associate Professor of Physics at UL Lafayette in August 2005 and served as a tenure-track Assistant Professor from August 1999 to July 2005. From July 1998 to August 1999, Andy was an Assistant Research Professor at the Louisiana Accelerator Center in Lafayette, Louisiana. From December 1997 to June 1998, he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate with the H.J. Foster Center for Irradiation of Materials at Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama. During his postdoctoral tenure, Dr. Hollerman was responsible for managing a mercury treatability study of the Upper East Fork Poplar Creek at the Y-12 Plant near Oak Ridge, Tennessee. From December 1994 to December 1997, Dr. Hollerman was the Training Director at the Center for Environmental Technology in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. From May 1986 to July 1994, Dr. Hollerman was a senior staff scientist at Nichols Research Corporation in Huntsville, Alabama. At Nichols, he supported and managed a variety of U.S. Army engineering and development programs.

  • Since 1989, Dr. Hollerman has published many articles in fluorescence, triboluminescence, radiation physics, applied physics and engineering, and environmental technology in journals such as the Journal of Luminescence, Materials Letters, Materials Today, Journal of Instrumentation, Measurement, IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science, Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Journal of Materials Research, and the Journal of Nuclear Materials. He has given presentations on a variety of scientific and technical topics to hundreds of participants.
